that. new tonight, we are in el paso heights to explain. reporter: they are associated with with high crime and violence probably not the first place people think of when considering buying a new house but maybe they should.
they are sitting on houses that doubled in value in five years. reporter: the old real estate adannual is location, location, location but for sara it was all about price. it was a chance for us on to buya a home. reporter: she paid $140,000
for her home six years ago. a lot has changed in her neighborhood. just blocks away a house is for sale. it went on the market a week ago. the buyer got 3 offers. today it sold for $180,000.
prices are rising and buyers are looking around and there is a sense of i better buy before i can not afford the market. an appraiser and crunches the numbers. he is seeing a pressure on prices especially on lower priced homes because areas do
not offer a lot of inventory but it is affordable. as buyers many of them first time buyers, compete for homes, prices have skyrocketed. in 2012, they were selling at $125,000 at the most. now that number is $250,000 for the house.
reporter: like other neighborhoods they are seeing the prices going up. no other change or improvements. now, he is part of the reason these buyers are not investors that come in and remodel homes that flip.
the families move in seeking to change the neighborhood. less of that hipster vibe, you know, where we have these young people moving in and wanting to be a part of the change. residents say it is great that her property value has
gone up but she is concerned more people are getting priced out of sacramento. i worry about the people like me who could barely afford to get into this house in weather it was at its lowest.
